This luminous oil painting captures a moment suspended in mystery and metamorphosis. A Black male figure emerges from deep shadows, his form glowing. Monarch butterflies—symbols of transformation—are collaged across his body. His gaze is inward, enigmatic, as if mid-transformation. There’s a sense that something sacred is unfolding within.

The title Chrysalis speaks to the process of disintegration that goes before an inner transformation. The figure is almost disintegrating into gold dust and butterflies. The glowing presence hints at the light we carry even in darkness, and the butterflies mark the slow emergence of new wings. It’s also speaks to the true strength of embracing vulnerability. 

Part of my Unspoken collection, this piece explores the  powerful process of transformation. The Monarchs are not just decoration—they are witnesses to growth, guardians of vulnerability, and emblems of becoming. The contrast between the bold figure and the delicate collage elements invites reflection on resilience, identity, and inner evolution.
